Curry, Henry, Kupp, Judge among most bet-on athletes of 2022
ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. (AP) – Did you bet money on St. Peters, the men’s college basketball team making the Elite Eight in this year’s national championship tournament?
If that’s the case, you have plenty of company.
DraftKings Sportsbook reports that in 2022, more money was wagered on St. Peters than any other team. And on March 25, the Peacocks’ 67-64 victory against Purdue was the most profitable game for BetMGM’s patrons.
Did you lose money betting on the Alabama Crimson Tide, Green Bay Packers, or New York Yankees?
Several of the country’s major sportsbooks provided year-end data to The Associated Press, which offers a look at how people bet in 2022.No one will divulge the monetary amounts since they are confidential information.
Other money lenders on DraftKings were the San Francisco 49ers, Minnesota Vikings, and Washington Commanders of the NFL as well as North Carolina, Gonzaga, Kansas, and Providence in the NCAA tournament.
Those who lost money for DraftKings customers included the defending Super Bowl champion Los Angeles Rams, who did not even qualify for the playoffs in an injury-plagued 2022 season; the Denver Broncos, a trendy pre-season Super Bowl pick whose trade for veteran quarterback Russell Wilson has backfired with a 4-11 season so far; the struggling Tom Brady-led Tampa Bay Buccaneers; Brady’s former team, the New England Patriots; Miami Dolphins; and the NBA’s Golden State Warriors and Brooklyn Nets.
In terms of total amount wagered, Golden State’s Steph Curry was the highest-scoring 2022 player for the DraftKings, followed by the Rams’ Cooper Kupp, the Super Bowl MVP; the Yankees’ Aaron Judge, American League MVP; Tennessee Titans’ Derrick Henry; Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce; Luka Doncic of the Dallas Mavericks; Giannis Antetokounmpo of the Milwaukee Bucks; Nikola Jokic of the Denver Nuggets; Wide receivers Jammer Chase of the Cincinnati Bengals and Jayson Tatum of the Boston Celtics.
Derrick Henry of the Titans, Nick Chubb of the Cleveland Browns, and Kelce were the top three punters overall.. Others on the list include wide receiver Davante Adams of the New York Giants, Saquon Barkley, Indianapolis Colts, Jonathan Taylor and Las Vegas Raiders.
The top bettor for Caesars Sportsbook customers was Curry; Doncic; Bengals quarterback Joe Burrows; Tatum, and Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford.
Kaiser’s top betting teams were the Yankees; Warrior’s; Los Angeles Dodgers; New York Mets and Phoenix Suns.
Judge, Curry, and Doncic were the players at BetMGM who placed the most wagers.
Houston mattress dealer and big-time gambler Jim McKingvale, also known as “Mattress Mack”, scored two big wins with Caesars this year: winning the World Series at 10-1 odds for a $30 million payout made a $3 million bet on the Houston Astros for , and winning a nearly $8 million bet on Kansas to win the NCAA basketball tournament.
Judge, Curry, and Doncic were the players at BetMGM who placed the most wagers. McIngvale bet $10 million on the Astros World Series with BetMGM.
The World Cup soccer game in which the USA beat Iran 1-0 was the third most profitable game for customers at BetMGM this year.
The games that proved to be the best for BetMGM – but not their customers – were led by a September 12 revenge game between the Seattle Seahawks, who had Wilson, who was acquired by the Denver Broncos, was recently traded. In the Bengals-Titans playoff game, the 49ers-Packers playoff game, and the Georgia-Alabama college football championship game, he also played admirably.
Large Super Bowl wagers, including one million dollar wagers on the Rams scoring more points than the Bengals in the first and fourth quarters, were paid off by that sportsbook.
The Super Bowl was the most bet-on event of the year at PointsBet, as it was at the majority of sportsbooks. It was followed by the Bengals-Chiefs AFC conference championship game, the Raiders-Chiefs game on October 10, the first game of the season on September 9 between the Rams and the Buffalo Bills, and the Dolphins-Bengals game on September 29.
FanDuel, the official odds provider for the Associated Press, did not provide similar data for 2022.
